It’s now 11:30 pm and we’re just finishing up building the last of the cabinets! These are the ones that will go under the cutout which we didn’t want to put in until after the appliances were here to make sure they didn’t get damaged. We still have to build the insides of a bunch of the cabinets, but the boxes are all built which is a major milestone.
Today ended up being a lot busier than I thought and this is the first time I’ve been able to sit down for a minute. We had to make room for the new appliances which meant clearing out the room full of tools we had going on in the kitchen. Kitchen renovations = massive amounts of tools. 3 different power saws, 2 hand saws, 2 nail guns, I lost count of the number of screw drivers and wrenchs, 3 different size levels, etc. etc. etc. We had them move the old fridge to the basement so we also had to clear a space for that too. SO what I’m trying to say in a really long winded way is that we spent the morning cleaning so we would have room for the new appliances.
Here’s what the kitchen looked like this morning with the old appliances:
I’m loving how open and bright the new layout is.
Here’s how it looks now:
The dishwasher and microwave are currently in their boxes in the middle of the kitchen so let’s just ignore them for now. Let’s instead check out that massive fridge on the right. If you recall, the fridge used to be to the far left where that big pantry cabinet now resides.
A bigger fridge wouldn’t have worked in this space without moving the doorway which is why we chose to move it. The tall cabinet has slide out drawers and will double our pantry space, a good thing when you have 4 hungry kids.
With the soffits gone, we were able to get taller cabinets to give us a ton more storage.
A view of the cutout:
Hopefully tomorrow we’ll be able to mount the microwave and get those last 3 cabinets in. I’m so happy with the way everything’s turned out so far and can’t way to be completely done with this part of the project. The next big thing we need to do is order the granite. We’ve been going non stop and just haven’t had time to get out there. Hopefully once we do that, it’ll be less than a week until we have water and a completely function kitchen again. Although, the way it is now is 100% more functional than it was when it looked like this:
We’re now able to use it again which will make dinner time a heck of a lot less stressful.
That’s it for now. Time for bed!
