Playing the Glad Game

I got my cast on yesterday which is just one more step in the journey to recovery.  I’ll have this one on for two weeks and then I’ll get a new one for two more weeks.

Here it is right after I got it on.  I almost wiped out walking into the doctor’s office, wet marble floors and crutches don’t mix.  Luckily I caught myself before rebreaking my foot and the x-rays looked good.  My doctor thinks I’ll only have 4 weeks in the cast (as opposed to the 6 he originally estimated) and then into the walking boot for up to 2 weeks.  Once I graduate from the walking boot, I can slowly start to run again.  And while being on crutches is seriously annoying, it’s all gone a lot smoother than I imagined so I’m grateful for that.

Today is the beginning of lent and I spent some time yesterday thinking about what that means to me this year.  I’m still pondering that.  I was talking to a friend last night about perspective.  The fact that nothing outward can change in your life yet your life can drastically change with a change of perspective.  It’s so easy to get caught up in our own lives, the hard and the messy of it.  But it’s good to stop and think about the beauty of it too, maybe in Pollyanna fashion.  Maybe we should all be playing the glad game on a daily basis where we find something in everything to be glad about.  It’s actually a lot easier than I thought.  Today I’m glad that I have a gym membership and can still workout while I’m in my cast.  And I’m glad my kids have been happy to help me carry things around around.  And I’m glad Lawrence was able to take off work to help me after surgery.  There’s a lot to be glad about.  I think this lent I’ll work on my perspective and on having a more thankful heart.   And also, I decided to give up Diet Coke.  It will be tough.  Unfortunately, we still have a case and a half in the house.   But I’m glad it’s in the downstairs fridge.   It’s not worth the effort to go down there and get it. 😉

Today I’m heading to the gym to pull on a rope for a while.  And here’s a picture of me on the arm bike the other day…

Be glad that’s not you! 🙂

Only you can look cute in a leg cast working out 🙂 Keep up the good work. And, hmmm….I’m glad you’re my sister!

    1. I’m not sure “cute” was the word you were looking for but thank you. 😉

  2. I’m on the arm bike too for warmup before PT. I really like the pully though. My left pulls up my right to the fullest range I can get without hiking up my shoulder. I’m making progress — can actually eat now with my right hand and lift a cup of tea to my mouth. Slow going though. Hope your progress is lots faster!
